Do you ever feel an unexplainable tickling pain and numbness in your hands or feet most of the time? Then perhaps you have peripheral neuropathy.

This is a collection of disorders that usually happens when the nerves of the peripheral nervous system is damaged. The peripheral nervous system is the part of the nervous system that’s outside the brain and the spinal cord. Although it’s caused by traumatic injuries, infections and exposure to toxins such as too much alcoholism, the most common cause of peripheral neuropathy is actually diabetes.

Neuropathy usually affects the motor nerves, those nerves that control muscle movement and also the sensory nerves which are responsible for detecting different body sensations like coldness or pain. In some cases of neuropathy, however, it also tends to affect internal organs including the heart, bladder and intestines.

The most common people who get neuropathy are people who suffer from diabetes, especially those who do not control their blood sugar levels. There are also cases wherein people who have autoimmune diseases such as lupus and rheumatoid arthritis have the risk of developing neuropathy. And there are also instances wherein people who abuse alcohol or have vitamin B deficiencies are put into the danger of developing neuropathy.

The type of symptom that you might experience when you have peripheral neuropathy greatly depends on the nerves that are affected and also on the origin of the disease. But in general, the symptoms of neuropathy start with lack of sensation, prickling in the toes or fingers and then eventually continue to extend to the hands and feet. When this happens, burning sensations as well as severe pain starts to be felt especially during night time. The usual pain that people who have neuropathy is more often described as a tingling or burning sensation usually at the hands and feet. Other symptoms of neuropathy include excessive sensitivity to pain, muscle weakness, loss of balance, high or low blood pressure, lack of sleep because of pain, and also excessive sweating.

If on the other hand, you’re experiencing neuropathy due to alcohol abuse, symptoms might include sharp pains and loss of urinary control. There are also a possibility for you to experience nausea, constipation and inability to tolerate normal body heat. Aside from that, you can also experience drooping eyelids, unstable tone of voice and difficulty in swallowing.

Neuropathy need not hinder you from doing things that you normally do. Don’t let it stop you from doing the most out of your life. Consult a physician now to know more about peripheral neuropathy as well as about other types of it.

Many people are not aware about this kind of condition mainly because it is not a common disease. Neuropathy is acquired through various diseases. It causes the nerve and other peripheral nerves damaged. This condition does can affect other outer parts of the body. Want a real story, try searching for photos about neuropathy and see how this disease can badly affect someone’s life. If you’re not fully aware about what neuropathy is, here are some of the classifications of neuropathy:

Mononeuropathy – From the word “mono” which means there is only one nerve involved. One example of mononeuropathy is the Carpal Tunnel Syndrom (CTS), an upper limb condition that affects the hands. This condition often affects women than men.

Multiple mononeuropathy – This kind of neuropathy involves two or more affected nerves. Parts affected are mostly feet. Some patients who have serious case of this condition have swollen feet and unhealed wounds. Most people who have diabetes are attacked by multiple mononeuropathy.

Polyneuropathy – This is the rarest of the three classifications of neuropathy. The condition also affects diabetic neuropathy like Guilain-Barre Syndrome. GBS affects the peripheral nervous systm. It is also auto immune which means that the patient’s immune system attacks that good tissue instead of the bad ones.

Knowing what neuropathy is can help you in preventing things to get worse. However, it’s still better to seek for an expert’s consultation should you see signs of this disease. Your doctor’s advice is still a lot better than general knowledge. Want to learn more about neuropathy? You can read some online articles that delve about this topic. You can also read health magazines if you want to opt on offline sources. Always have in mind that there is no failure in patient research so maximize all your sources in gathering information about what neuropathy is.

There are hundreds of ways on how to maintain your health and not making it go worse. What is neuropathy? I would not say that it’s disease, I would rather say that it’s just something that you acquired to learn on how to discipline yourself. Do don’t be sad, regard you condition as a big challenge for you. So here are some diet and workout tips that might be helpful to you:

It may somehow help you in conquering neuropathy.

Eat veggies – Most of the people who are used to eating a lot of meat say that they can never survive eating vegetables alone.

Let’s admit it, only few of the people are health-concious. They would have a poor lifestyle and when an illness attacks their health drastically, then that’s the time that they would be aware of the word “diet”. It would be better of all illnesses can be eliminated by medicine. Unfortunately, not all sicknesses can be cured – like neuropathy. Specifically, this is not a disease but a disorder where it affects your nerves which make you incapalble to senses like heat, cold and texture. And the worse thing about that is there is no medicine that can totally eliminate this disorder. On the bright side, doctors have found a way minimize the complications of Neuropathy and its natural causes.

Imagine a life where you don’t get to feel anything. It’s hard right? Neuropathy is a disorder that can also be gained through other sicknesses like diabetes, HIV and other side effects caused by constant intake of medicines. Like what I mentioned earlier, a healthy diet is very important to prevent an illness like this. For example, if you have diabetic neuropathy, you should know that one thing that you would monitor is your blood sugar level. It’s a common sense that you should not take too much sweets and exercise daily. Otherwise, you will be suffering from a lot of complications and possibly, neuropathy.

This article was not made to scare you. It was written to give you awareness about the treatments of neuropathy.Learning something new about health is already a big thing that you can get benefit from when the time comes. Much more than that, living a healthy lifestyle is really the most important thing to do. Prevention is better that cure right? So if you’re experienceing numbness against heat or cold, don’t hesitate to go to the doctor for a consultation. Neuropathy should not be ignored because once you get this disoder, there’s no cure. Take this advice positively, it’s for your own good!

Who Else Wants To Easily Prevent Small Fiber Neuropathy?

Can you imagine yourself having a neuropathic condition? The inability to feel anything at all and how difficult it is to deal with everyday. That’s quite a disconcerting thought. Small fiber neuropathy is a disorder of the nerves that damages the body’s nerves making them insensitive to feeling sensation (hot, cold) it is also caused by sickness such as Diabetes, HIV, various side effects from medicines. Having a poor kind of lifestyle also contributes to this and other causes.

People, unfortunately, do not take care of themselves and only take measures when the condition is there. They would rather wait for the disorder to attack them. Cure is good but in this case, there is no permanent remedy. It is true that there have been technological means to stop the condition but these are all temporary.

It is in this light that people should realize that investing in preventive measures is actually the key to keeping healthy. For example, if you know that you’re suffering from high blood sugar, you must maintain discipline and only have a diet with limited sugar intake. Diabetes, as mentioned, is a cause of small fiber neuropathy but it is something that can be combated. If you believe that you’re suffering from it, then you should act fast!

Special drugs and medicines should also be watched out for; there may be side effects that come out once taken in a person’s system. This could trigger the neuropathy depending on what stage it is or worse, complicate small fiber neuropathy more. It is better to invest in vitamin supplements and natural medicines to combat small fiber neuropathy.

Indeed this kind of condition is alarming and must be identified in the onset of the early stages before it advances. The key is to be aware of one’s health and keep your body in good condition and shape. Such measures can steer you away from conditions like small fiber neuropathy.

Even before you go to the doctor you can already know if you have any kind of neuropathy through different symptoms that you might be experiencing.

There are many different kinds of Neuropathy. For instance, symptoms of peripheral neuropathy might be different from small fiber neuropathy symptoms. It is important for you to take note where the pain or other sensations are coming from. There is a chance that what you are experiencing is not even related to any form of neuropathy.

The symptoms include pain, numbness, or the common pins and needles that we feel on our arms or legs. If any of these things that you are feeling are unusual and recurrent then you should consult your physician right away. It is better for it to be diagnosed early.

But the best way to be diagnosed is still to go to your doctor. He/She may perform an EMG (electromyography) or a nerve conduction test to see how fast the nerves are transmitting impulses. You may also get a blood test to see if there are any vitamin deficiencies.

Now that we have discussed what neuropathy is, let’s take a closer look at the more individual branches of the medical condition. This is because there are a lot of people asking ‘what is brachial plexus neuropathy.’ In other instances, it can also be referred to as brachial plexopathy. This is a nerve disorder which occurs in the brachial plexus. The brachial plexus is a group of nerves which are responsible for linking the arm together with the shoulder. One of the characteristics of the symptoms of this condition is the onset of intense pain which can be felt in the shoulder and in the upper arm. This pain is then followed by regional weakness.

Although the condition is rare, there are a number of doctors which misdiagnose the disease as a problem which starts in the cervical spine. They often tell the patient that this is a condition caused by either a compressed or slipped disc. This is because both of these conditions originate from the same area as the brachial plexus neuropathy condition.

There are several things which can cause this condition. This includes injuries due to stretching, trauma to the area, radiation, inflammation, tumors, exposure to toxins, congenital abnormalities, and even some medications. At the same time, the level of pain which can be experienced varies for each patient. There are some patients that can also feel numbness or tingling in the affected area. At first, the pain felt can be mistaken for strain or a similar injury. It is only until patients experience muscle weakness when they start going to the doctor and ask them ‘what is brachial plexus neuropathy.’ After consulting with a doctor, patients will need to undergo a series of tests in order to determine what proper treatment can be done to their condition.

Upon hearing the term, people will immediately ask ‘what is neuropathy.’ This is not uncommon as there are really a lot of people who are intrigued with this term, especially after their doctor has told them they are suffering from it. Before defining what this condition is, let us first take a look at the literal definition of the word.

Neuropathy comes from two words which are: Neuro and Pathy. In the medical field, neuro means nerves while pathy means abnormal. When these two words are combined, it means that the nerves are abnormal. And this is exactly what it is.

Neuropathy is a medical condition wherein the nerves have been damaged. The nerves have been known to send information to and from the spinal cord and the brain. Because of this damage, patients can experience common symptoms such as pain, numbness, and an inability of controlling muscle movement.

Often, it is associated with Peripheral neuropathy which is the nerves that are further from the center of the body. Some of the common areas where this condition is felt are in the hands and feet. Typically, the painful experience can be described as burning or tingling, while the numbness can be compared as wearing a glove or a thin stocking.

There are many causes for this condition. Some instances are a result of infections, traumatic injuries, exposure to toxins, and metabolic problems. But largely, the common cause for this condition is diabetes.

In most cases, the symptoms of neuropathy can improve over time. This is especially true if the condition has only been caused by an underlying situation that can still be treated. However, there are already several known medications that are known to reduce the painful symptoms neuropathy can bring to its patients.

After asking ‘what is neuropathy,’ the next common question people have is what its symptoms are. Aside from the ones mentioned above, there are still a number of other symptoms that can be experienced. But mostly, those that have been already mentioned are the most common.

Did you know that millions of Americans are suffering from various types of neuropathies and its symptoms? The painful thing about this is that, majority of these people have idiopathic neuropathy. What does this mean? Imagine being completely healthy. No sicknesses or whatsoever. Then one day—BOOM! You suddenly lose sensation or feel weaknesses in your muscles. That’s what idiopathic neuropathy is.

As a background, the nervous system has two parts: the Central Nervous System (CNS) and the Peripheral Nervous System (PNS). The former includes the brain and the spinal cord while the latter composes the nerves connected to the CNS. Basically, idiopathic neuropathy affects the PNS. The scary thing about this type of neuropathy is that the cause is unknown. Hence, the cure is hard to find.

Idiopathic Neuropathy – The Good and Bad News

For people with idiopathic neuropathy, all the can depend on are medications and treatments which can lessen the symptoms, which can still vary. The sickness can affect the motor or the sensory nerves and cause different kinds of indications in the body. While there are some people who are lucky enough to get rid of this sickness when their bodies create new nerves, some have to live with it for the rest of their lives.

Technology is finding ways in order to treat these people. Although idiopathic neuropathy is truly a mystery, therapies which involve electric waves or infrared lights have proven to be successful. These are still under research and may cost a great deal of money. Until then, people have to hang in there as they battle the neuropathies plaguing their bodies.
